The House of Ward & Lock was founded in 1854 by Ebenezer Ward and George Lock at 158 Fleet Street, London. They published all manner of materials from novels to maps. In the early 1860’s they published a few moveable children’s books. George’s brother, John Henry Lock, joined the firm in 1861, and then the publishing house moved to Amen Corner, on Paternoster Row. Charles T. Tyler joined the firm in 1865 and the imprint changed to “Ward, Lock, and Tyler”.
