Poor Robinson – Rare Antique theater pop-up - 1883
No information is printed on the book itself, but research
shows that it was published in the 1880s by Gustav Loewensohn in Fureth,
Germany.
This is the English Edition
We don’t know who the English publishing partner was for Loewensohn
or if it was strictly an export. This
was sold as a book with four scenes titled Theatrical Picture Book. Each scene
was also sold separately*, as is seen here.
*As stated by Theo Gielen in movable stationary August 2007
( Volume 15 / Number 3)
Theo stated that “the
four separate scenes came on the market at the same time, under their own
titles. ”He also confirmed that Loewensohn was the printer of the English edition
as well as the 1883 publication date.

According to the Movable Book Society Newsletter from August, 2007, “The four
separate scenes came on the market at the same time, under their own titles, as
card-covered, double spreads, most likely to increase the profits! This Poor
Robinson that puzzled Ann Montanaro at the time, is therefore one of those
separately published scenes - all of which are now very rare.”
