Complete set of six pop-up views of Paris made for the Universal Exhibition (World’s fair) in Paris 1889. Fine.
Publisher, Imp. Mazerand, 130 f.9 St Denis Paris circa: 1889* Illusrated by : Ch. Arnal
6 pop-up scenes – Similar to Columbian World's Fair set, heavier and smaller sized, but similar in being a themed set of tableaux. Views are chromolithographed on a stamped paper and fold into heavy duty card stock covers (19 cm x 21 cm). The scene pieces pop up with paper bridges or string, very unusual. The pops are quite intricate with tiny pieces in excellent condition. The string pull mechanism on Palais De Justice is unknown to us (and several collectors we asked) from anywhere else.
All pop-ups are complete, all original, and in fine condition save for a bend on a lamp-post. Covers have some foxing – see photos.
The 6 scenes include: Place de la Concorde, Place de l'Opéra , Hôtel de ville, Notre-Dame, Palais de Justice, and Place du Carrousel.
Collectors Corner: *The World’s fair held in France in 1889 (Called The Universal Exhibition) in Paris was held in both 1889 and 1900. Due to the automobile in one of the scenes, we have been told that the probable date of this set is 1900.
