This edition is believed to be a translation of the original French version published by A. Capendu in Paris. The collaboration between SPCK and Capendu likely involved SPCK acquiring the rights to translate and distribute the work for English-speaking audiences. Such partnerships were common in the early 20th century, enabling publishers to broaden their reach and share culturally significant works across different languages and regions.

Collectors Corner:
The Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge (SPCK) is one of the oldest Anglican missionary and publishing organizations in the world. It was founded in 1698 in London by Thomas Bray, an English clergyman, with the aim of promoting Christian education, distributing religious literature, and supporting missionary work. The SPCK focused on publishing religious books and tracts to spread Christian teachings, particularly among the poor and in overseas missions. It played a significant role in establishing schools, libraries, and churches, both in Britain and abroad, especially in colonial territories. During the 18th and 19th centuries, it was one of the most influential religious publishing organizations in Britain. It expanded beyond theological texts to include educational materials, Bibles, prayer books, and literature on social and moral issues. Today, SPCK continues as an active Christian publishing house, producing books on theology, spirituality, ethics, and religious studies.
"Fables of La Fontaine with Moving Pictures" conveys moral lessons, as it is based on the classic fables of Jean de La Fontaine, which are renowned for their ethical teachings. Each fable presents a brief yet impactful story that highlights a fundamental truth about human nature and society, often featuring animals as allegorical figures.Since this edition was published by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge (SPCK), a publisher known for promoting moral and religious education, it's likely that the selection of fables aligns with Christian ethical values. The use of movable illustrations enhances engagement, helping young readers better grasp the stories' messages.
