FAO Schwarz Holiday Collection - 1920 - 1948 - A Pop-up Treasury
Hard Cover - 1st edition - First printing - Limited Edition.
Famous pop-up artist Ron Van Der Meer designed this pop-up book exclusively for FAO Schwarz in 1997. Not many were printed and this book is becoming very difficult to find, especially in fine condition with all removable pieces still attached.
We bought several copies in New York that year and all copies have been stored away since then - unused and unopened.
All original pieces are still present and unused:
This marvelous pop up book features one large pop-up of a carousel ride and 6 actual gold stringed removable paper ornaments based upon FAO's Christmas catalogue covers of 1920, 1929, 1939, 1943, 1944, 1945, 1946, and 1948. (It is interesting to note that three of those covers (at least) have been recreated as glass ornaments by Radko: 1920, 1929, and 1939.)
Also includes the original 6 page booklet featuring the cover of a 1920 FAO Christmas Catalog that came with this book tucked under the inside front cover. This small booklet serves as a tribute to some original holiday covers and unique depictions of Santa Claus from 1920 to 1948.
The back cover features the statement: "This inspired Treasury is but the inaugural cornerstone of an annual series of exclusive limited edition collectibles and keepsakes which we hope will become a valued part of your holiday collection to be enjoyed by all for years to come.
Closed, the book measures 11" square. The carousel, when opened up, stands 8" tall.
Book, booklet, and ornaments are mint in the same condition that they were sold in back in 1997 and unused.
