Information about the publisher according to the book Lust and Leering. History of the Dutch children's book in the nineteenth century (2001) –P.J. Buijnsters, Leontine Buijnsters-Smets (Lust en Leering. Geschiedenis van het Nederlandse kinderboek in de negentiende eeu)
"In the 1870s, De Haan published a number of so-called 'Magic picture books' in quarto format (price 90 cents), .. The print itself, however, was probably of English or French origin. Unlike Trap with his pull-along books, De Haan liked to work with surprising metamorphoses by means of flip-up plates and hole prints that function as a curiosity at the fair. However, his "Magic Picture Books" also present us with substantive surprises... "Magic picture book" seems to have been the Dutch name for a metamorphosis picture book with flaps....With their excellent color printing on good paper, De Haans 'Magic Picture Books' contrasted favorably with the mass production of price breaker Jan Vlieger. Compared to these, however, all previous Dutch publishers of movable picture books were just retailers."
