Very Good condition with very slight age staining - see photo. The lift up pictures themselves are in fine condition, each one with story text on the verso to describe the "new" image when each is lifted. Archival linen reinforces the gutters. See photos.
By Walter Stranders (British, 19th century), Stranders also illustrated Dean's word changing chromo picture toy books series. Both series are advertised together but separately. The 3 Surprise Panoramic books were larger in size than the Word Changing Pictures but the word changing pictures had more pages..
Advertised as Dean’s Surprise Panoramic Toy Books series consisted of three titles:
Surprise Panoramic ABC and step to learning Surprise Panoramic Home Nursery Rhymes Surprise Panoramic House that Jack Built
The back cover describes this series of three books as such: A whole panoramic chromo picture (size 11 X 9") is seen at first, and on lifting up that section.. the panoramic picture is changed - so that each book has 7 pictures
Note that while these books were advertised by Dean in 1887 as "truly a royal road to learning for the little ones and a real Mother’s Help and joy for young ones" The Bookseller - 1887 - Page 1228
The back cover advertises Dean's Word Changing Chromo Picture Books as well as these. It also advertises Dean & Son's monthly newspaper "The Little Ones Own Coloured Picture Paper" We have written about this newsletter in our Dean & Son Biography published on this site as well as in "Movable Stationary". We also offer an original fine copy of Dean's newsletter, see our other offerings.
